A portrait is a picture taken of a person or small group focusing on their face or expression while they are in a still position, also known as portraiture. The personality, mood and likeness of the person or group will be presented. You can also include the whole body and background in portrait photography as well. When taking a portrait photo the person or group is generally looking strait at the camera.

Portrait photography, unlike other styles uses unskilled models. Graduations, special events and weddings are types of occasions where portrait photography is used, and later showed in private homes. Many are done on studio with several backgrounds to choose from.

A Bit of History

Ever since the camera was invented people have been using portrait photography. Having your portrait painted was expensive and not as available. People would sit against a background and were lit with natural light from a window. Portrait photography can now be more creative with the way technology has evolve since they can adjust light and go around more.

Be pleased if your camera has an optical zoom lens though only 2x (most modern digital compact cameras usually only 3x).

Really, zoom facility is the ability to change from wide-angle shooting (wide) to a narrow angle.

Capture a wide angle is perfect for crowded images like photographs with one class, one-football teams, a house with a yard wide, and so on.

While taking a narrow angle is usually done to make an object that appears far closer to or greater without the photographer must approach the object. Examples of its use is to photograph the singer on stage, the building across the river, sports, etc..

Wide-angle lens you can operate the set with the Zoom-in and zoom-out on your camera. Zoom-in process is when you change from wide angle to a narrower angle, and zoom-out process is the opposite, from the previously narrow / look at a lot.

Zoom facility can also be used to dramatize the image we will make.
With the zoom, the image background can we arrange to go away or closer to the object as you wish.
